1. Los Angeles and Littlerock, AK are approximately at the same latitude. Given this latitudinal similarity, discuss/explain the distinct temperature differences that occur in these two locations during their respective summer and the winter seasons.

"Latitude affects temperature. As we get closer to the poles, the temperature decreases and as we get closer to the equator, the temperatures rises."

Geodetic coordinates are the quantities latitude, longitude, and elevation, which define the position of a point on the surface of the earth (http://oas.ucok.edu/OJAS/02/papers/wight02.htm). However, "... longitude does not affect temperature or minutes of light per day. Humidity is reported as affecting temperature and comfort levels (http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/iseries/v5r2/ic2924/index.htm?info/phyplan/environ/temp.htm).

Although the two cities are at the same latitude, other differences that impact temperature exist. For example, elevation and geographic location (i.e., coastal region versus foothills of the mountains) affect the temperature. Elevation is measured in meters above sea level. Since the elevation will have an effect on the moisture in the soil, this gives reason to believe it will also have an effect on the air and soil temperature.
Let's look at the geography of the two cities, and how it impacts temperature:
