The American Stock Exchange Market (AMEX) is the subsidiary option market place of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) Euronext. The AMEX was acquired by the NYSE in October 2008. The acquisition of the AMEX by the NYSE enabled it to become third largest option market place in the US and increasing the share of the company in exchange traded funds (ETF), closed end funds, cash equities and structured products. In this stock exchange 10% of the US securities are traded in this market (NYSE Euronext, 2008).

The National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations (NASDAQ) is the largest trading market in the US that was found in the year 1971. It is monitored by the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC). It was the first electronic stock market of the world. Approximately 3200 securities are listed in the NASDAQ stock exchange.
