If businesses stick to compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act they may face problems such as increased cost of auditing, and not using auditing firm services for any other purpose. The consequences are harsh, the share prices dropped and auditing costs increased. However, firms should stick to the Sarbanes Oxley Act because it will benefit the investors, lower incidents of fraud/theft, and lead to more reliable financial reporting. According to the article, in the long run there will be greater transparency, accountability, and public companies will pay a lower cost of capital. There will be improved access to financial resources and there will be growth in the firms.
