Personally, I would pick a stock with dividend payouts, although some people actually prefer stocks that do not pay dividends. The dividend payments are basically the stockholder's share of the company's profits. Most companies that pay dividends are well-established, larger companies. The stability in a company that is able to pay out dividends to shareholders is an advantage, because there is less fear from investors that the company will fold as easily as a company that is not as established, and not able to pay out dividends. The dividend-paying companies have shown that due to the growth in their earnings, they can pay dividends to shareholders, in which case the shareholders actually "see" their money working ...
