For the attached case study I am trying to evaluate the effectiveness of the communication between the Exxon and its intended public in the case study of the Exxon Corporation's Bad Good Friday and really struggling with the scope. Looking for some explanations.
I am trying to identify the different publics involved in the case study. Differentiate between the internal and external publics involved. What impact did the communications have on the intended public(s)? Could the message have been communicated more effectively? How?
I also need to identify the different PR communication tools and techniques that were used to inform, influence, and motivate the public(s) in the case. Evaluate the benefits and risks of using these tools. What other tools would you have used?
If this crisis were to occur today, how would new technologies, such as the Internet, impact this case? Due to the recent globalization of markets, would the outcome of this case be different if the events occurred today?

The internal publics were the management, the employees and the workers that were trying to contain the oil spill. The external publics were the shareholder, the competitors, the public at large, and the citizens of the area where the oil spill occurred. Every country where Exxon operated and dealt with included the external publics. The external publics also included the government and government agencies. The external publics are reached through new media.
The message could have been communicated more efficiently, if chairman Rawl had flown in to Prince William Sound and had visited the site of the disaster. Further he should have shown more concern about the disaster, the animals that suffered, and the people that lived in that area. Further, Exxon would have been more effective if its media center had been established in New ...
