Online transaction processing (OLTP) are database applications that are used to facilitate and manage transaction-related information which are used in the daily business operations. It is also known as operational processing. It allows real-time processing of retail processes, e-commerce and other time-sensitive data. With online transaction processing, many users perform transactions together that change real-time data. Individual users may request only few records but these requests are being made simultaneously. The main concerns of the OLTP are atomicity and concurrency (msdn.microsoft.com).
