1. I searched in the index of scholarly articles that had any mention to adjunct faculty policy or part-time faculty in California community colleges.
2. I went through the articles that were related to adjunct faculty in California community colleges.
3. Next I searched news items that pertained to faculty in California community colleges;
4. Then I searched the internet for articles on California community colleges.
5. I discussed this issue with two faculty members in my colloge who had taught in a California college.

There is an important role that can be played by policy research in adjunct faculty policy in California community colleges. The reason is that policy research helps generate alternatives to the system of part-time faculty. It has been observed that adjunct faculty workforce produces lower graduation rates than those with full-workforce. In addition, most of the remedial courses are taught by adjunct faculty. That apart the increased use of adjunct faculty means that jobs are taken away from full time positions. In addition, in California community colleges the roles of the adjunct faculty are not clear. The adjunct faculties are not easily integrated into California community colleges. There is insecurity in the minds of the adjunct faculty; there is no security of employment, no chance of promotions, and no health insurance or other benefits. This system leads to acute frustrations and poor performance. The use of adjunct faculty policy in California community colleges leads to differences in teaching methods by part-time and full-time faculty. The result is that there are indifferent results. Part-timers may use older methods of teaching while the full-timers use modern technology and methods leading to different outcomes.
What policy research can do is to examine the difficulties that arise from the adjunct faculty policy in California community colleges, study the basics of the programs, and discuss methods of improving the pedagogy. In addition, the policy research can help generate alternatives for adjunct faculty policy in California community colleges and research each program from different perspectives and study its feasibility and effectiveness.
Policy research is important because it can generate recommendations for either ameliorating the adjunct faculty policy in California community colleges or viable alternatives to the adjunct faculty policy in California community colleges.
