The most important problem facing Arcelor Mittal is the increasing difficulty in accessing raw materials because of increasing prices of raw materials. The main problem is that the commodity prices, especially the iron ore prices have increased tremendously because of fresh demand from developing countries like China.
The steel plants of Arcelor Mittal need a constant supply of raw materials, mainly iron ore and coal to run these plants profitably. There is an increase in the prices of these raw materials, there are up to 65% increases in prices of iron ore from Brazil.
Similarly, coal prices have increased for the sixth consecutive year and China needs coal for its electricity plants that are coal fired. It is forecasted, that the prices of coal will increase even more (Hiscock. G 2007),. .
