BFOQ is called the Bona Fide Occupational Qualification. This is used primarily when it comes to hiring and retaining employees. Some circumstances are worth noting when it comes to gender, age, or religion for BFOQ. Basically, minimal circumstances are needed when it comes to specific job duties. For example, a person has to at least be the age of 16 to work for a company, male or female needed for a position is needed when it comes to filling it. I believe that are reason on why employers do decide to have questionable practices when it comes to BFOQ. For example, if there is an individual that is a female, but is disabled or has a mental disability, then the company has every reason not to hire him or her because of the fact that they will fear a lawsuit that is about to occur within their line of work. Another is that of when people are poor, and do not have the nicer looking clothing to get the job. An advertisement can also be another reason why employers prefer certain individuals over others based off the job description provided, such as someone who has a high school diploma, and five years of management experience. Anyone who has a Bachelor's degree on up has a small chance of receiving the position because of the possibility of having a higher diploma needed to do the job well and effectively.
