McKinley and Curtis (PR Firm simulation)

Identify an ethical dilemma you had to address in the Simulation.
A close male friend and member of the executive staff was involved in an indiscreet relationship with a female, junior member of the office. Your friend misused official resources personal gain by taking her with him on business trips. The junior member was promoted to a position she was not qualified for.

Describe who the stakeholders were in the dilemma, and their apparent values.
Your friend, Patrick, seemed only to care about his power, position, and affair. Aaliyah, his lover, used her relationship with Patrick to travel and get a promotion. The other employees viewed this as unethical and could start to see the only way to move up in the company was to involve themselves with a senior executive. Finally, the executive staff (yourself included), could become the target of employee disdain and viewed by customers as unprofessional.

How did you resolve this dilemma?
Using the company's Code of Ethics as guidance, Patrick was warned about the relationship. He chose to ignore the consequences and felt his power, position, and the friendship would overshadow the relationship. Even after Patrick landed a large contract he was fired for continuing his indiscreet relationship.

What techniques have you used outside of class to resolve ethical dilemmas you have encountered?
Since I entered the business word at a lower level, this helped make the decision an easy one. Seeing executives take advantage of their position went against my upbringing and personal ethics. I believe that employees should do the right thing even when nobody was looking. I decided then that if I was ever in a position of authority I would do what was in the best interest of the company and set the example for others to follow.
