    If the manufacturing support cost in the cutting department has a causal relation with machine hours and that in assembly department has a causal relation with direct labor hour, the method suggested in part (b) is would be better as it would provide more accurate estimates of the cost. However, if we have no reasons or evidence to believe that support cost in cutting department is related to the machine hours, it is more appropriate to use the same cost driver direct labor hour for both cutting and assembly department. One most important reason why managers would prefer using method suggested in part a is that using the single cost driver rate is simple and easier to implement.
