When trying to figure out what the five sentencing goals of corrections are, you need to first think about what the correctional system is trying to accomplish. Some of the goals of the criminal justice system include: deterring crime in society (general deterrence), punishing individual offenders (specific deterrence), correcting offenders' behavior to lessen the chances that they reoffend (rehabilitation), preventing the offender from reoffending for a given time period (incapacitation), and satisfying the victim's need for justice (restitution).
