Some of the goals of the criminal justice system include: deterring crime in society (general deterrence), punishing individual offenders (specific deterrence), correcting offenders' behavior to lessen the chances that they reoffend (rehabilitation), preventing the offender from reoffending for a given time period (incapacitation), and satisfying the victim's need for justice (restitution).
