Siemens is Europe's largest engineering company. It global headquarters are based in Berlin and Munich. The company is a conglomerate of three businesses namely Industry, Energy, and Healthcare.
The environmental scanning process was done be assessing the global industry potential of the industries in which Siemens operated. The industries identified with high growth rate and potential are automation, communications, lighting, medical, power, and transportation. During the environmental scanning process it was realized that if there was an integration of the businesses there would be better and larger opportunities. Siemens calls these cross-sector businesses. For example, the buildings of a health care facility and developing power generating capabilities for the facilities. It was observed that there were high growth opportunities for Siemens in information technology and communications.
