There are three ways that project organizations can be structured. All organizations are derivations or combinations of these structures. At one end of the spectrum of organizations is the pure project organization. At the other end is the functional or traditional organization. The organization's maturity with respect to project management has a great influence on the project manager's performance. Project managers who have a management style of participative management may have trouble managing projects in a strongly hierarchical environment. The pure project organization is an organization where all project team members are directly subordinated to the project. Frequently used titles for the manager are project or program manager. Project managers generally work whole time and have the whole responsibility, absolute power and authority which is the opposite of functional project organization. Briefly they always say the last words while making decisions. For example if we look at the history, during the construction of Great Wall and Egyptian pyramids, this type of organizational structure is used. All the people were dedicated until the end of the project which was necessary during these days because they were very large projects of great importance. In the pure project organization, the relationship between having a good focus on the goals of the project and good motivation is clear, and people respond to a clear focus. So there are many advantages like clear project authority, access to special expertise, project focus and priority, as well as simplified project communications.
