Similarities and Differences between Judaism, Christianity, and Islam
The first thing one learns about these three religions is that, despite claims to the contrary, they are more different than they are similar. About the only thing that they seem to share in common is the belief in "One God" (monotheism); however, the very definition, nature, and behavior of that one God various tremendously between the three groups. For example, Judaism considers the "One G-d" intimately associated with his creation and specifically with the nation of Israel. Deuteronomy 6:4 would be considered a wonderfully concise statement of that G-d. Fundamentally, he is "One." Christianity, of course, believes in a "One G-d" who is also intimately associated with his creation, but is more interested in the "church" than in Israel. To Christians, that "Godhead" is composed of a Trinity ("Three in One") made up of "God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit." Finally, Islam believes in a "One G-d" who is beyond understanding and sight. In the Quran, Surah 112 is considered a succinct statement of G-d.
