1.) According to the website, boys seem to be exposed to video game violence more than girls. For instance, in one survey, 242 boys ranked Grand Theft Auto as the #1 most played video game. This is a very violent game that comes with a warning label as it has strong sexual references, car thefts, gore, drug use, and very violent content. On the other hand, amongst girls, The Sims raked #1 as most played game, followed by Grand Theft Auto. This tells us that, although boys seem to be more attracted to the game than girls, both groups expressed a high interest in the game and play it frequently. Therefore, it is a problem amongst both males and females. On the other hand, it was found that boys play video games more frequently than girls (approx 6-7 days per week).
In a 2009 survey, it was found that video gaming is not just predominantly played by children and teens. Only 25% of gamers were under 18 while 49% were between the ages of 18-49. This tells us that young children and adolescents are not only getting exposed to violence in their own games but also from games played by older siblings and even parents within the home.
