Twenge, Baumeister, Tice, and Stucke (2001) told students that a personality test showed that they would or would not have any significant personal relationships for the rest of their lives, and then assessed the students' willingness to help others. The students told that they would not have any important social relationships were less likely to help.

Loneliness is a problem that plagues many people, but consider college students- the courses they take, the amount of students in each discipline, trying to make friends on campus, and so on.
1. Based on the text you sent, within psychology there are many avenues one can take- or 7 perspectives (see pg 27): Biological, Evolutionary, Cognitive, Social, Developmental, Clinical, individual perspectives and personality. Until relatively recently, people would stay within their discipline. Nowadays, the trend is to try and merge the disciplines. Therefore, the loneliness exists when one doesn't extend their boundaries in other fields. However, see below.
2. How would each of the seven perspectives of psychology approach the question of why people are lonely? This is what I gathered from the material presented:
Biological- Consider how one thinks influences their behaviors.
Evolutionary- Discuss how over time, the way we look and our actual physical structure is influenced by our emotions.
Cognitive- The process of thinking and problem solving. How did the individual come to think they way he does? Is he "lonely" or just faulty thinking processes?
Social- How does our environment influence our behavior? Is it easier to think, plan, and organize one's thoughts by oneself or in the presence of many people?
Developmental- how memory functions across different ages. Consider how our memories influence our future actions. When one gets older, are one's memories shaped in a certain way to ...
