1. What are the similarities and differences between attitude measurement and public opinion polling? Provide an example of each one. Which one of these two assessment tools would you prefer using, and why?

Public opinion polling "has been described as falling between social science and journalism." (1) An example is public polling of political candidates that provide public opinion of the some measure of the political candidate. An attitude is defined as an "enduring disposition to consistently respond in a certain way" (5).

Although both public polling and attitude tools attempt to measure "attitudes" about certain people or events, public opinion polling often lacks the scientific rigor that most objective attitude measures have. Compared to objective attitude measures, public opinion polling is often of fairly low standard, except perhaps both measures often make use of a form of random sampling i.e. stratification for sampling.
