Calculate the orbital radii in different units for all the planets. You will also provide the results as a bar chart.
Use a cell reference or a single formula where appropriate. Do not copy and paste values or type values.

Steps to Perform:

1 Start Excel. Download and open the workbook named: Chapter_3-3_Planets_Start

2 In cell D12, convert the orbital radius of Mercury to miles. Fill cell D12 down the column to cell D21.

3 In cell E12, convert the orbital radius of Mercury to million of miles. Fill cell E12 down the column to cell E21. Format cells E12:E21 as Number with 2 decimal places.

4 In cell F12, calculate the ratio of Mercury's orbital radius in millions of kilometers to that of Earth. Fill cell F12 down the column to cell F21. Format cells F12:F21 as Number with 2 decimal places.

5 In cell G12, calculate the ratio of Mercury's orbital radius in miles to that of Earth. Fill cell G12 down the column to cell G21. Format cells G12:G21 as Number with 2 decimal places.

6 In cell H12, calculate the ratio of Mercury's orbital radius in millions of miles to that of Earth. Fill cell H12 down the column to cell H21. Format cells H12:H21 as Number with 2 decimal places.

7 In cell E24, determine if it matters what units to use for the original scale when you create a planetary scale with Earth set to 1.

8 In cell E26, determine if the scales with Earth set to 1 unit are unit-less.

9 In cells J28:P42, insert a Clustered Bar Chart to show the orbital radii of all the planets. Select range B12:C21. On the Insert tab, click Recommended Charts, and then click Clustered Bar. Apply Style 5 on the Design tab. Add a chart title and choose the Above Chart option. Replace Chart Title with Orbital Radius (millions km).

10 Save your file and submit.

Given a planetary scale of orbital radii in millions of kilometers:
a.) Convert these distances to miles.
b.) Convert these distances to millions of miles. Format to 2 decimal places.
c.) Scale each of the three rows of data (millions of kilometers, miles, and millions of miles) with Earth set to 1. Format to 2 decimal places.
d.) If you are going to create a planetary scale with Earth set to 1, does it matter what units (e.g. km or miles) are used for the original scale?
e.) Are the scales you just created in part c with Earth set to 1 unit-less?
f.) Make a well-labeled bar chart comparing the orbital radii. Use the following for the title: Orbital Radius (millions km).
