Ted Bundy's investigation was a revolutionary event as it ushered in the era of the modern day serial killer, who went across state lines to target his victims and compiled different investigations across state lines that required tedious and time consuming sleuthing by investigators to discover the links that existed between the different cases. This case was the catalyst for the ViCAP system as the original investigators had to confer with over 90 different individual cases before they were able to track down the killer.
