The Renaissance was a rebirth of cultural and intellectual learning that began in Italy during the early 1300's. It spread to England, France, Germany, Spain and other countries in the late 1400's and ended in 1600 (in the mid-seventeenth century). The word "Renaissance" means "rebirth." Thus, during this period, there was a great renewal of interest in the study of literature, art, technology, classical antiquity, architecture, etc.
