Dwight D. Eisenhower - He was perhaps our greatest World War II hero (along with MacArthur and Patton). He exhibited two traits that would influence our history. First, he portrayed the image of the regular guy - wearing "normal" clothes and playing golf. Second, he fought hard to contain communism. This can be seen in his willingness to escalate American involvement in Korea and Vietnam. The fight to contain communism especially defined American life up to the 1989.

Nuclear Power - was a direct result of the war effort during World War II. Nuclear power would define the Cold War era and continues to shape our world today, though hopefully for more humanitarian purposes such as fuel and energy.
