Heat of Metal
Not what you're looking for?
In this virtual lab, you will use coffee cup calorimetry to determine the specific heat, c, of a metal.
Imagine that, in lab, you record the mass of a piece of metal, m_metal, as
m_metal = 45.00 g
In the next step of the lab (as shown in the animation in the attached document) you heat uo the piece of metal.
Play the animation and record the metal's highest temperature, T_metal. ( = 87).
In the next couple steps, you find the mass of water (m_water) to be
m_water = 130.00 g
The initial temperature of the water to be,
T_water1 = 27 degrees Celsius
The final temperature of the water to be
T_water2 = 30 degrees Celsius
With the information above and specific heat of water, 4.184 J(g*degrees C), you calculate the specific heat, c, of the metal.
