The 19th century was a memorable and historical time for women all over the world. It was during this time that women started to fight for equal rights as men, such as being able to hold jobs in various fields. One of the first fields to emerge with women during the 19th century were textile factories and garment shops, however the working conditions were beyond unbearable for many and were so bad in some situations that women's health were frequently in danger. Women worked in poorly ventilated, dark, crowded rooms, often with children working by their side for sometimes up to 12 hours a day. While women were granted the right to work, the conditions under which they were working was despicable. Because of these conditions, a law was passed in Great Britain allowing women to work a maximum of 10 hours a day however this was not put in place in American until the year 1910.
