When I think about a project, I think about a task of a set duration, budget, and goals. When I see the word "maintenance" that tells me that something is ongoing and really has no set end or goals. Although, it may have a budget. If you look online, you get a lot of definitions of the word itself. One I came across was "a plan, proposal, or scheme" at http://www.thefreedictionary.com/project .Clearly, in project management you have a plan or proposal, but it goes a little further than that, as I pointed out.

2) What is a project life cycle? How do project life cycles differ among organizations? To what degree does the structure of the project lifecycle used by the organization affect the project manager's job? Explain your answer.

A project life is exactly what it sounds like. It is the various states a project goes through.
