This inventory was established under the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act of 1986 (EPCRA) and expanded by the Pollution Prevention Act of 1990, (EPA, 2007). In a nutshell, the TRI is one of the measures used to evaluate environmental performance. The TRI requires companies to report releases to the land, air, and water during the course of a calendar year.
