(a) Baby Boomers already employed in public service:
When evaluating the largest generation currently in today's workforce, the Baby boomers, there are some core competencies that are associated with this group of workers and their contributions to their organizations is enormous based on their years of experience and outstanding work ethic and drive to get things done. This is the generation that coined the phrase, "workaholic" as this was the generation that began the trend of taking work home with them and performing seemingly nonstop on their assignments (PR, 2013).
That being said, the boomers are now approaching retirement age. Because of the unique time span that identifies the age group of Boomers, 1945-1964, in many cases Boomers are burdened with taking care of their parents and their own children all while working to try and provide for their retirement as well. This strain on the Boomer for their time makes the most appropriate recognition award time-off (Humphreys, 2010).
By offering extra time off with pay to Boomers, the employer is able to help the Boomer focus on the needed time away from work to take care of their many family responsibilities or just get a "break" for a couple of days to unwind. So, this award would be the most appreciated and have the biggest impact for this group of employees (Humphreys, 2010).
(b) Baby Boomers returning to public service after retirement:
