Organizations are active political arenas for various reasons. Identifying appropriate problems in an organization for leaders means recognizing changes due to internal or external factors (Mangi, Ghumro, & Adidi, 2011). External changes can be economic, social, and political. The internal factors can be behavioral, operational, and cultural. Either external or internal factors can be reactive or proactive. Reactive changes occur as a result of new problems or opportunities and proactive changes occur are planned in anticipation of a possible problem or opportunity (Mangi, Ghumro, & Adidi, 2011). It is critical for leaders to manage crisis, and failure can lead to consequences including compromising shareholders interests, financial losses, and the good reputation of an organization (Mangi, Ghumro, & Adidi, 2011).
