BSE technically stands for Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy and the foodborne disease it causes is the so called "mad cow disease" (EUFIC, 2010). Now I'd like to mention here that "this mad cow disease" as it is named for, has gained much interest from the media sometime in the early 2000 and caused significant attention to the society as it was thought to be transmissible to humans just like it's human counterpart, the Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease (CJD) and variant-Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease (vCJD) (EUFIC, 2010).
