1. How do Google and Metacrawler compare to the Vivisimo search engine?

Google is by far the most popular search engine and has actually become a noun, verb and adjective. As an instructor, I can attest that when students are looking for information on the web, nearly all will go directly to Google, and Google only. To get off on a bit of a tangent, I love to talk about Google in the classroom purely to discuss the success of a "copycat" product. However, I personally do not believe that Google is the best search engine to use. With my search string, Google retrieved 53,500 matches, while Metacrawler returned 24 matches, and Vivisimo returned 9792 matches. For look and feel, Metacrawler seems much more professional. It appears that on the surface, Google and Vivisimo are very similar, with only a left margin folder tree pane on Vivisimo and color scheme differences to separate the two.
