Testing for ESP

I went over to our Provost last week to try to convince him that I have the ability of Extrasensory Perception (ESP).

I gave him a deck of 10 cards, numbered 1 to 10, and asked him to shuffle them. Then, he would have to look at each card, and concentrate on the number, one at a time.

I let him know that I could read his mind by giving him the order of the cards he read.

Do you believe me that I got the order 100% correct? Yes, he told me so.

Solution Summary

This solution describes a simple way to test a claim. A discussion following the simple test compares it with the general methods we use for statistical hypothesis testing.
