Degrees of Freedom and Significance Level : Support or reject the null hypothesis?

1. If I have a degree of freedom equal to 4 with a significance level of .01. Would there be enough evidence to support a claim with a test statistic equal to 13.5? Would this support or reject the null hypothesis if the null hypothesis supports the claim?

Solution This solution is FREE courtesy of BrainMass!

Ho: t = 13.5
Ha: t<>13.5

df = 4
a = 0.01
Then from a t table, the critical t value is 3.75
since the stat is greater than the critical value, we have to reject Ho.

Another probability is Chi square (X2) test.
Ho: X2 = 13.5
Ha: X2 <>13.5

df = 4
a = 0.01
Then from a t table, the critical t value is 13.28
Again, since the stat is greater than the critical value, we have to reject Ho.
