Here is a list of some norms associated with hegemonic masculinity:
Anti-feminine norm: Men are discouraged from showing feelings or acting in a way that is compatible with the traditional form of femininity. Causes men to act "manly," remain aloof from emotions and be loners.
Interpersonal relations: Men are discouraged from being relational. Feelings, beliefs and aspirations are not discussed they are repressed. This can cause a lack of bonding between men and their families. Children may not really "know" their dad. Since women desire relationship and open communication this can have a detrimental effect on marriages.
Success norm: Men are told to be financially successful in order to be meaningful. The result is that men who are rich are believed to be successful regardless of character deficiencies. Men are not rich are viewed as failures in spite of the fact that they may be excellent men of integrity, great husbands and fathers.
