The main reason that Newdow objected to the Pledge of Allegiance being recited in school was because of the phrase of "under God" in it and that this was unconstitutional because not everyone believes in God. Newdow is an atheist (someone who does not believe in a God) and feels that religion should be separated between the two entities of church and state (public schools).
