I need help writing a professional letter. I am terrible at this. Please help. Using the Riverbend City case study that I attached, assume the role of a generalist social worker involved with that case. Write a professional letter making treatment recommendations for the agency or workplace in the case study regarding how the workplace can better serve clients in a culturally sound manner. The details of the case and your research should inform your recommendations and your letter should reflect micro, mezzo and macro systems, and the ecological perspective in generalist social work. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Dear Student,
Hi and thank you for using Brainmass. The solution below should get you started. In this particular task, you are being asked to assume a role - that of a generalist social worker. Now, to make this much easier, let's use an outline. I suggest this:

1. Introduction - 100 words
2. Case summary - 100 words
3. Lessons from the Vang Case
a. micro - 100 words
b. mezzo - 100 words
c. macro - 100 words
4. relevance of a generalist social practice - 100 words
5. ecological perspective and cultural sensitivity - 100 words

A letter to staff members is like a memo - it has to be concise and on-target, with the message appropriate in accordance to the workplace. The scenario thus is to assume the role of a social worker - perhaps the supervisor of Chandra - so as to share the lessons from the Vang case. This outline should yield 700 words and should cover what you need. Just let me know if you need further clarification. All the best with your studies and thank you for using Brainmass.

Sincerely,
AE 105878/Xenia Jones

Social Work Practice Open Letter

• Subject: Bridging Cultural Gaps - Lessons from the Vang Case

Introduction

As you are all aware, we have been lately challenged by the case of Lu Vang, a Hmong child. Lu was admitted at the Riverbend City Hospital due to the complications brought on by exposure to chemicals in a train derailment. The complications in his hospital care however arose after the nurses suspected child abuse due to what they observed as bruises in his body. With his family unable to speak English and the limitations of kin-communication on such legal matters, a cultural misunderstanding of Hmong practices created conflict between the Vang family and hospital staff. This is a case we can learn much from primarily because as Social Workers, we are on the frontline of social issues in a multicultural America. The American society is becoming increasingly diverse, what with our nation being at heart, a state borne out of migrants. The Hmongs, like many ethnic groups have unique socio-cultural practices that, when mainstream is not familiar with, their expectations of social standards and the expectations of right practice from American mainstream culture clash, so much so that what is normal in their worldview is not necessarily easily viewed as standard practice, making some cultural traditions suspect. It does not mean that one side is wrong - it is to be expected when cultures clash. ...
