Supporting adolescents that suffer from autism
Not what you're looking for?
Adolescence with autism may be at high risk for suicide. They are often isolated because they lack social skills. They may seem odd to peers. According to Mandell, Walrath, Manteuffel, Sgro, and Pinto-Martin (2005), "caregivers reported that 18.5% of children with autism have been physically abused and 16.6% have been sexually abused and physically abused children are more likely to engage in sexually acting out or abusive behavior and more likely to have made suicide attempts," (para. 1).
