"The social drift hypothesis postulates that the debilitating effects of schizophrenia on capacity to work result in a lowering of socioeconomic means, and hence poverty" (Combs, Mueser, and Gutierrez, 2012, p. 273). With this in mind, variables associated with an individuals lifestyle can have devastating affects on the individuals mental health. Given that poverty can deliver devastating effects on the development of mental health, how would this variable play a role in establishing resilience versus risks, and how would you incorporate this variable when focusing on providing a diagnosis to your clients' resent condition?
