Psychological disorders are based on those emotions that refer to physiological and psychological changes that can affect one's behavior. For instance, uncontrolled and/or negative emotions can result from stressful responses to life situations and crises. In addition, research shows that nonconformity is based primarily upon some form of hostility or attitude toward adhering to specific social norms. Situational norms guide behavior in certain situations or environments (Baron, Byrne and Branscombe, 2006). They hold that there are two reasons why people go along with situational norms and agree to conform that include: (a) a desire to be liked, and (b) the desire to be right. On the other hand, according to Baron et al., there are reasons why persons choose not to conform such as: (1) the need to maintain individuality and culture, and (2) the desire for personal control (p. 350).
