Let's take a closer look at these interesting questions. I also attached two informative resources that expand on this response.

RESPONSE:

Q1. Describe the infant's height and weight, including how they change during the first two years and how they compare with those of an adult.

A child's physical growth refers to the increases in height and weight and other body changes that occur as a child matures. Hair grows; teeth come in, come out, and come in again; and eventually puberty hits. It's all part of the growth process. http://kidshealth.org/parent/growth/growing/childs_growth.html

The first year of an infant's life is a time of incredible change. During this time, a baby will grow rapidly, and on average, babies grow 10 inches (25 centimeters) in length while tripling their birth weights by their first birthday. This slows down in the second year, and no child continues the rate of growth experienced during infancy. After age 1, a baby's growth in length slows considerably, and by 2 years, growth in height usually continues at a fairly steady rate of approximately 2½ inches (6 centimeters) per year until adolescence. During this second year of life, the toddler may gain between 3 and 5 pounds (1.4 to 2.26 kilograms). For example, an average 15-month-old girl weighs about 22 pounds (about 10 kilograms) and stands 31 inches (79 centimeters) tall. Boys tend to be about a pound heavier at 15 months but about the same height. By age 2, both girls and boys will stand about 34 inches tall (86 centimeters) and weigh about 27 to 28 pounds (12.25 to 12.7 kilograms) on average. Your toddler's head size also will not change as dramatically this year, with about 1 inch (2.54 centimeters) added to head circumference (http://kidshealth.org/parent/growth/growth/grow12yr.html).

In comparison adult development is almost completed and any physical growth is minimal up to about age 25, and then height begin to decrease over time due to the aging process.

Q2. Describe the basic reflexes of the newborn, and distinguish between gross motor skills and fine motor skills.
