Training & Development: Organizational Review

Introduction

Training and development is an essential skills and functional capacity element in any organization. Organizations invest in their employees not only because of what they currently possess in terms of skills, qualifications and capacities but because of the promise they hold in terms of what they can become through experience, exposure, mentorship and training. Additionally, employees and workers of today are very much engaged in their own personal and professional development so that they find that they are always on the lookout for opportunities in the firms that they are with or, if they are seeking employment, they are looking for organizations that will afford them further development and opportunities through instituted training programs. This position is healthy for employees and their organizations as it allows organizations access to better trained, more skilled manpower and talent to ensure that they are always on the cutting edge to complete their tasks and goals in a more effective way while at the same time it empowers employees, promoting organizational appreciation, loyalty and confidence.

The CBP

I am currently employed with the Department of Homeland Security's key organization under its umbrella - the Customs and Border Protection Agency or the CBP. The organization that I work for is one of the primary agencies of the US federal Government. Its main trust is to regulate and facilitate international trade, collect import duties, as well as enforce U.S. regulations, including trade, customs and immigration. It is a massive agency under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) umbrella and since it is federal, because of its sheer responsibility it is the largest law enforcement agency in the US.
