Chuck Yeager

Chuck Yeager hails from the United States of America. He was born Charles Elwood Yeager in the town of Myra, West Virginia in 1923. He grew up in the nearby town of Hamlin, West Virginia where he graduated from high school and joined the United States Army Air Corps where he would be sent to serve in World War II as pilot (achievement.org).

During his time in World War II Mr. Yeager was shot down by the enemy and survived. He went on to demonstrate extraordinary ability as a pilot during the war, shooting down some 13 enemy aircraft. Once the war was over, Mr. Yeager's flying experiences made him a prime candidate for taking the new role of a test pilot and instructor at the newly created branch of the United States military known as the United States Air Force.
