    Medical Physics

Medical Physics is the application of physics concepts, theories and methods to medicine and healthcare practices. These departments are found in hospitals and universities. In hospitals, ‘Medical Physicists’ are healthcare professionals who work in the fields on Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Oncology.

In university departments, there are two types of medical physics. The first are mainly concerned with preparing students for careers as hospital Medical Physicists and the second type has a much wider scope and may include research in any application of physics to medicine from the study of bio-molecular structure to microscopy and nanomedicine.

In the case of University Research-based departments the mission emphasizes the fact that bio-medical physics is the use of physics concepts, theories and methods for the greater understanding and development of clinical practices and experimental medicine. Medical Physics is based on life sciences and impacts the future on patients. Many bio-medical physics departments are multi-disciplinary which can include physicists, engineers, mathematicians, chemists and physicians.

Forces Exerted by Achilles Tendon Applied to Bicycle

A bicycle wheel has a diameter of 63.9 cm and a mass of 1.87 kg. Assume that the wheel is a hoop with all of the mass concentrated on the outside radius. The bicycle is placed on a stationary stand and a resistive force of 121 N is applied tangent to the rim of the tire. (a) What force must be applied by a chain passing over a
