I have a test coming up and I can't seem to grasp the concept of this particular part of the chapter. Here are two sample problems that I am having the most difficulty with.

1.) One particle has a mass of 3.00 10-3 kg and a charge of +7.60 µC. A second particle has a mass of 6.00 10-3 kg and the same charge. The two particles are initially held in place and then released. The particles fly apart, and when the separation between them is 0.100 m, the speed of the 3.00 10-3 kg particle is 115 m/s. Find the initial separation between the particles.

2.) A charge of +9q is fixed to one corner of a square, while a charge of -6q is fixed to the diagonally opposite corner. Expressed in terms of q, what charge should be fixed to the center of the square, so the potential is zero at each of the two empty corners?

Please see the attached file.

1.) One particle has a mass of 3.00 * 10-3 kg and a charge of +7.60 µC. A second particle has a mass of 6.00 * 10-3 kg and the same charge. The two particles are initially held in place and then released. The particles fly apart, and when the separation between them is 0.100 m, the speed of the 3.00 10-3 kg particle is 115 m/s. Find the initial separation between the particles.

Q = +7.60 µC = 7.6 * 10-6 C
m1 = 3.00 * 10-3, v1 = 115 m/s
m2 = 6.00 * 10-3, v2 is the speed when they are 0.100 m apart.
