Motion along a straight line and free falling objects

This problem set contains 15 multiple choice questions on motion along a straight line. First three questions are typed below.

50. A stone is released from a balloon that is descending at a constant speed of 10 m/s. Neglecting air resistance, after 20 s the speed of the stone is:

51. An object dropped from the window of a tall building hits the ground in 12 s. If its acceleration is 9.8 m/s^2. the height of the window above the ground is.

52. Neglecting the effect of air resistance a stone dropped off a 175 m high building lands on the ground in how many seconds?

Please refer to the attached word files for the rest of the questions.

Following is the text part of the solution. Graphs, special characters and diagrams may not appear below. Please read the attached file for a complete solution.

Since the following expressions are used often I will refer to them by numbers as follows:

s = ut + ½ a t^2 ------- (1)
v^2 = u^2 + 2 a s ---------------(2)
v = u + a t ---------------(3)

Where s is the distance traveled, 'a' is the acceleration, 't' is the time, 'u' is the initial velocity and 'v' is the final velocity.

Further many problems in this problem set involve throwing an object up or dropping an object down. When we throw some thing up,

(a) Its motion is under gravity. Acceleration of gravity is always = g = 9.8 m/s^2 unless specified and pointing downward.
(b) At its maximum height, velocity = 0 (I have used ...
