Please help with attached problem #18.
Show that the equation....has exactly one real root.
We'll use the intermediate value theorem to show that the equation 2x - 1 - sin x = 0 has at least one root.
Consider the interval [0, pi] over which the function f(x) = 2x - 1 - sin x is defined;
then f(0) = 0 - 1 - 0 = - 1 ...
This provides an example of verifying that an equation has a specified number of roots.
