Quadratic Formula

Solve the following equation for y:

y^2-2y = x^3+2x^2+2x+3

The answer is supposed to be: y = 1 plus/minus sqrt(x^3+2x^2+2x+4).

I have no idea how they arrived at this.

I'm trying to apply the quadratic formula, but I don't know how to do it in this case.

Solution Summary

The quadratic formula is applied.
