Then a + 6 = 0 or a + 5 = 0

i.e. a + 6 - 6 = 0 -6 (subtracting 6 from both sides)

a = -6

or a + 5 - 5 = 0 - 5 (subtracting 5 from both sides)

a = -5

Therefore a = -6 or -5

# 9 ( 2x + 5 ) ( 3x - 4 ) = 0

Then 2x + 5 = 0 or 3x - 4 = 0

i.e. 2x + 5 - 5 = 0 - 5 (subtracting 5 from both sides)
