Plessy v. Ferguson involved a single man but was representative for an entire race. The man was a Creole male in Louisiana who could pass for white but was considered African American, during this time Blacks had to sit on separate bus cars. The man refused and was arrested, upon his arrest he challenged the practice of making Blacks sit on separate buses as a violation of the 14th Amendments' doctrine and his lawyer argued before the Supreme Court this fact.
