The major components of communication consist of context, sender, message, medium, recipient, and feedback. I will give a review of each different component within this summary so that the student can gauge how the following questions will be answered that emanate from this initial answer. In reference to context, this is the objective of the communication wherein any communication that occurs is proceeded by context. The sender who chooses which message will be sent must determine what context will be entailed within the message.

The next focus of the communication paradigm includes the sender who is the person responsible for sending the message. The message could include words, graphics, or symbols depending on the sender's intent. The sender uses these methods to convey the message and produce a response from their intended recipient. The sender could be an individual or an organization. Verbal and non-verbal symbols are critical in the interpretation of the recipient for ascertaining the intent of the sender's message.

The next component is the message itself. We have already discussed the context of a message and the person or organization that sends the message. A key idea that a sender wants to communicate to a recipient represents the message itself. The communication process begins as alluded to during the first paragraph by the sender determining what the context of the message will be.

The next important facet of the communication process is the medium. The sender must determine which medium will be used to send the message. E-mail, the postal service, overnight express, or the telephone represents potential mediums that could be utilized for sending a message. In addition the sender could give the message in person. A recipient is the person who is the intended focus of a message and who ultimately receives the message. His or her feedback is usually desired by the sender and represents a final end to the communication process as it gives the sender the capability to analyze the efficacy of their message in reference to whether the recipient was able to gauge their intended context.
