In simple terms, the humanities are different academic ways of studying the human condition. In other words, things that people did. When studying the humanities, we're not studying the natural world or the physics of movement, we're studying what exists because people are here. Humanities are the things that help us understand what is going on in our world, or what did go on during a particular time in history. For example, when studying the Renaissance, it's important to know about the art (sculpture, paintings, etc.) of the time period, but understanding the music, the way that buildings were made, the way that people thought about the world, and the stories that people were writing really help us to understand their world and our world.
